SkySQL is the first and only database-as-a-service (DBaaS) to bring the full power of MariaDB Platform to the cloud, combining powerful enterprise features and world-class support with unrivaled ease of use and groundbreaking innovation. Built for mission-critical applications and enterprise governance, SkySQL augments automation with the human expertise and experience needed to support and manage mission-critical deployments in the cloud – whether it’s a single development database or thousands of production databases.
SkySQL, now available on both Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud, is the first DBaaS to offer a distributed SQL database for applications with the most demanding scalability and elasticity requirements – and for all applications, regardless of scale, continuous availability and zero downtime with an advanced database proxy and full redundancy.
Deploy databases in AWS and/or Google Cloud across 20+ regions spanning US/Canada, Europe and Asia-Pacific, with Azure coming soon.
Meet any scalability challenge, and be prepared for continued or exponential growth by deploying a distributed SQL database with elastic scaling.
SkySQL provides customers with a single solution for all of their database needs, removing the need to use separate database and data warehouse services (e.g., Amazon RDS + Amazon Redshift/Snowflake), and the cost and complexity of doing so – all while providing a new generation of modern applications with fast transactions and real-time analytics.
Deploy a cloud database for transaction processing with persistent storage, replication, read load balancing and read/write splitting all configured out of the box and ready to go.Learn more
Deploy a cloud data warehouse for ad hoc, interactive analytics on billions of rows with data stored in a columnar format on low-cost object storage and massively parallel processing.Learn more
Deploy a cloud database for smart transaction processing, adding real-time analytical queries to transactions, with row data stored on persistent SSDs and columnar on object storage.Learn more
SkySQL is the only DBaaS capable of deploying MariaDB Platform as a distributed SQL database for scalable, high-performance transaction processing or as a multi-node columnar database for data warehousing and ad hoc analytics. SkySQL makes it easy to start small and scale when needed, as much as needed – whether it’s the result of continued business growth or an exponential surge (e.g., successful Black Friday/Cyber Monday promotions).
Deploy distributed SQL databases to scale out on demand, adding or removing as many database instances as needed to perfectly match the requirements of applications with growing or dynamic workloads.
Deploy data warehouses running on multiple database instances for high availability and scalability, with analytical queries using multiple cores on multiple servers to maximize performance on massive data sets.
SkySQL is built on a state-of-the-art, cloud-agnostic foundation in order to provide customers with a future-proof database platform and the freedom to pursue a cloud strategy that best meets their needs, whether it’s hybrid or multi-cloud, a conflict of interest with Amazon or the desire to maintain choice and pursue lower costs.
SkySQL is the first DBaaS to support hybrid transactional/analytical processing and mission-critical workloads with MariaDB Enterprise Server, MariaDB ColumnStore and MariaDB MaxScale.
SkySQL is the first DBaaS to run MariaDB Platform on Kubernetes, laying a foundation for multi-cloud deployments and enabling features such as regional clustering and self-healing.
SkySQL is the first DBaaS to harness the inventory and workflow management capabilities of ServiceNow to create a portal for consolidated database administration – ITSM for DBaaS.
SkySQL was built from the ground up to protect customer databases running on public cloud infrastructure, going above and beyond standard security measures to eliminate potential vulnerabilities, minimize the attack surface and enforce strict access protocols. In doing so, SkySQL created a reference cloud security architecture based on compartmentalization, isolation and indirect access. There is no safer place for a cloud database than SkySQL.
SkySQL makes it easy for anyone and everyone to deploy production databases for mission-critical applications running in the cloud. It is the first and only DBaaS to bring all of the enterprise features and capabilities of MariaDB Platform to the cloud – the same features on-premises customers rely on for greater reliability, availability and scalability.

SkySQL puts an end to worries about missing bug fixes and security patches, ensuring customers never get caught off guard by bugs and limitations resolved in previous releases. It is the first and only DBaaS to always offer the latest stable version of MariaDB Enterprise Server, never forcing anyone to run on a community version released years ago again.
SkySQL always makes the current version of MariaDB Enterprise Server available, currently 10.4, rather than forcing customers to run on versions released in past years.
SkySQL always adds maintenance releases as soon as they are available so customers never have to worry about missing critical bug fixes, security patches and improvements.
SkySQL always supports the latest version of MariaDB Enterprise Server, ensuring developers can take advantage of the latest features such as application-time period tables.

“Choosing MariaDB SkySQL on GCP was easy for us. The team at MariaDB blew us away with their deep expertise, and we quickly realized the importance of a DBaaS from the source – no one knows how to run MariaDB better than MariaDB. As a startup experiencing massive growth, it was important to modernize and future-proof for our next phase of growth. Being on the cloud and moving to SkySQL gives us the ability to scale quickly to meet our growing business requirements.”

“We ran benchmarking against DBaaS options offered by AWS, GCP and other providers – nothing came close to MariaDB SkySQL. In addition to exceptional performance, we like that SkySQL offers the most recent version of MariaDB so we can take advantage of the newest features and innovation. Also, SkySQL’s versatility means we can easily start leveraging new capabilities such as SkySQL’s data warehousing option when we’re ready.”

“MariaDB has been a true collaborative partner for us in our journey to the cloud. With SkySQL, we don’t have to bother with containers or managing the database, that’s left to the database professionals at MariaDB. We also have the option of easily expanding our applications to leverage blended transactions and analytics when the time is right. Moving to MariaDB from Oracle was a key strategic business decision for us and has ultimately saved us up to 80% in database costs – allowing us to reinvest the savings into delivering new, critical solutions for our customers.”

“As a Student Information Services provider we used MariaDB for over ten years as our primary database on our dedicated servers, never had any issue, simple rock solid. As we grow, we had a need for more scalable solution as well as redundancy. Since familiar with MariaDB, our logical next step was SkySQL (Maria’s database-as-a-service). Initially we got one primary and two replicas 16×60 instances with MaxScale on top which was sufficient to replace our 6 dedicated servers we were running. Costwise, it was just a bit over to what we were paying for barebone servers, however, no more server maintenance, linux updates, security patches, licenses and whatnot, all this is included in price with one of the best support folks I have ever seen. With MaxScale and self healing K8’s you get true High Availability. We also signed for their SkyDBA service, it is truly as having full time DBA on staff. They monitor our servers 24×7, restore instantly from the backup when needed and even redoing some of our queries for better execution. Very valuable.”
